Beautiful Houses and Sights to See in Fell’s Point, Baltimore

I moved from North Carolina to Philadelphia, but I was actually born and raised in the Washington, DC suburbs in Maryland. So I grew up taking field trips to the Baltimore Aquarium (coolest field trips ever!) and my family would visit Baltimore occasionally, but I hadn’t been to Baltimore since we moved from Maryland when I was 10 years old.

So when two of my brothers came to visit me for a while in Philadelphia, we took a day trip down to Baltimore to relive some of the memories of our childhood and check out some new places! The first neighborhood we toured was Fell’s Point, Baltimore, which might be my new favorite spot in the city 🙂

Tour of Fell’s Point, Baltimore

Fell’s Point was established around 1763 a little outside of downtown Baltimore. A man named Edward Fell laid out the neighborhood and sold land, which is where the name Fell’s Point came from. The area has a history of being a shipbuilding community, which came in handy during the War of 1812.

Immigrants from Ireland and places in Eastern Europe moved there over the centuries, and there are still a lot of churches for the different nationalities in the area.

Restaurants in Fell's Point Baltimore

Today, there are lots of restaurants and shops in Fell’s Point, Baltimore, and there are even over 100 pubs! (I did go to one, which I’ll tell you about below) The area didn’t see as busy and crowded as other neighborhoods we walked around, so Fell’s Point seems like a good place to go for more low-key drinks or dinner. And all the food I had there was great, too!

I loved the architecture in Fell’s Point! It reminded me a lot of some of the neighborhoods in Philadelphia. But Fell’s Point is along the water so you get the bonus of having great water views! The historic houses in the neighborhood were quaint and colorful, and they look like they’ve been maintained really well. I also noticed that a lot of house had small stained glass windows, which I loved 🙂

Great restaurants in Fell’s Point

The first restaurant was stopped at was Pitango’s Bakery! My brothers got breakfast sandwiches and I got a “cruffin,” and everything was great. We also stocked up on cookies to snack on later, which I definitely recommend doing! There’s a lot of seating inside, and you can also sit outside if the weather is nice to watch the boats going by.

For lunch, we went to Penny Black, which is right across the street from Pitango (don’t worry, we didn’t go to the restaurants back-to-back; we started at Pitango and circled back to Penny Black at the end of our day). We had the whole restaurant to ourselves, AND the food was great! Since we were in Baltimore, I obviously got crab cakes, which were delicious.

p.s. What was your “cruffin” like? Is it a croissant crossed with a muffin!?
