Which Camera Accessories Do You Use?

So this post is going to be a little different because instead of my usual Philadelphia photographs, I’ll be talking about some camera accessories that I use!

I don’t have a picture, but I use my Nikon D60 for all my photographs. It’s going on seven years old and has been around the world and knocked around quite a bit by my clumsy self, but it’s still in great shape! I eventually want to save up some money for a fancier camera with more features, but I’ll use my trusty D60 until it falls apart.

You all know I use my awesome Fjallraven backpack to carry my camera and supplies during my adventures because that’s where the name Philly with a Fjallraven comes from 😉 A little back story, I first saw Fjallraven backpacks when I was studying abroad in Denmark because it’s a Swedish company and very popular around Scandinavia, and I fell in love with them but they were too pricey in Denmark. I didn’t really need a new backpack in college because I had one in good shape, but after graduation, I started looking at Fjallravens for my Philly adventures because they’re more compact than my giant college one. Then lo and behold, I got my awesome Fjallraven for Christmas from Matt!

I prefer using a backpack instead of a shoulder bag for my camera gear because I’m always bumping into things with a shoulder bag and it never stays still, but a backpack doesn’t get in my way and the weight is evenly distributed (anyone else feel the same way or am I just weird?). My Fjallraven is compact, but it’s still large enough to fit my huge, clunky laptop if I need to carry it. It also has side pockets for water bottles, and it’s roomy enough to fit my camera gear and stuff for Annika

Another Christmas present I got this year from my best friend and fellow photographer is a lens cap holder from Etsy! Unless I’m wearing a jacket, I usually don’t have pockets, so awkwardly trying to hold my lens cap and take pictures was always annoying. This is so convenient to just put on the strap and it’s such a lifesaver!

I have had the same neck strap since I got my camera and it is starting to fall apart a bit, so I recently treated myself to a newer and more colorful one! I found this one on Amazon, and it had great reviews and was a good price. They had lots of color options so it took a while to pick my favorite, but I’m very happy with the one I chose!

Below is the inside of the strap, and it’s very soft and comfortable! For the low price of this strap compared to others, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and it seems like it will hold up well.

I am looking into getting a tripod, and I’m open to any suggestions! (Preferably something smaller or collapsible to fit into my Fjallraven!) Has anyone used these accessory brands before? If not, which accessory brands are your favorites? Comment below! 🙂

  1. I also prefer a backpack over a shoulder bag for camera equipment. I recently got the most perfect, faux leather small black backpack from Target of all places for my camera. Cameras can get so heavy and you really notice the weight when it’s concentrated on one side in a shoulder bag all day. In a backpack, it’s much less noticeable.

I think my tripod may be one from Amazon basics. It’s super lightweight and you’ll find that some of those feel flimsy to the touch. You’ll have to be more careful with setting your camera up on those tripods, but they are much more portable than heavy duty tripods. It’s really a trade off over your preferences!

Awesome, thanks for the tripod tip! 🙂 I’ll check it out! And yes, cameras feel so much heavier in a shoulder bag!
