I’m Changing My Blog’s Name!

01

Jan

To kick off the new year and celebrate my second blogiversary, I’ve changed my blog’s name from Philly with a Fjallraven to Through Julia’s Lens! πŸ™‚ I’ve been thinking about changing the name for a while now and brainstormed for the past few months to come up with the perfect name.

Through Julia's Lens

So why the change?

I decided to change Philly with a Fjallraven because the name didn’t fit anymore. When I first started Philly with a Fjallraven, it was a black-and-white street photography blog that I used to encourage myself to explore my new city (Curious to see what my very first blog post was? You can check it out here!). If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed that I haven’t posted a black-and-white photography post in over a year! Last year on my blogiversary, I announced in my 9 Things I Learned My First Year of Blogging post that I was changing the direction of my blog to include more travel posts, and over the past year, I began noticing that I was posting much more about traveling than I was about Philly.

I also started posting more about photography tips (including what to do when someone steals your photos), my experience quitting my job to become a freelancer, and I launched my first online photography course. The name Philly with a Fjallraven just didn’t fit what I was posting and since I want to continue posting travel, freelancer, and photography posts, I went ahead and made the change for my second blogiversary (I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for two years!).

I’m incredibly indecisive and I still loved the name Philly with a Fjallraven, so it took months to brainstorm names and poll friends and several different blogging groups before I finally settled on Through Julia’s Lens. I got a lot of feedback from bloggers with very differing opinions, and ultimately I turned to my friends for the final decision because they know my blog best (after all, they’re featured in a ton of my Italy posts!). I was torn between Through Julia’s Lens and another one, but one of my friends pointed out that even though I’ll be covering different topics on my blog, everything always comes back to photography.

My camera comes with me EVERYWHERE, and I’ve had my (small) photography business for over five years now. My travel posts are all about my travel photography- I even did a bridal photoshoot in Italy! My freelance work involves photography as a freelance photographer and photo editor. Plus, no matter what the topic is, I have never had a post without tons of photos! πŸ˜‰

So what does the future hold?

Don’t worry, I’m still going to be traveling everywhere with my Fjallraven backpack, and I’m still going to be posting about living in Philadelphia and things to do here (there’s so much more than Independence Hall and cheesesteaks!).

But the focus of my blog will be on travel and photography. I love traveling, both internationally and locally for weekend trips, and my travel posts have been my favorite to write. In 2017, I traveled to over 10 different cities in Italy, I spent long weekends in Newport and the Catskills, I traveled to Florida three times, I drove to North Carolina more times than I can remember, and I traveled to New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, and Charleston on my quest to visit all 50 states before I turn 30Β (I’ll have those photos up soon!), and I’ve also posted about my trips to Mexico, Chincoteague Island, Georgetown, Daufuskie Island, and day trips to Amish country inΒ Lancaster and Intercourse, PA. I’ve loved all of these adventures, and I’m hoping to get a lot more traveling done in 2018! πŸ™‚

I can’t wait for all my travel plans for this year! (pictures is my favorite city in Italy- Bassano del Grappa)

I’m so excited about the name Through Julia’s Lens, and I hope you like it, too! Stay tuned for more posts about all the adventures and plans I have for 2018! πŸ™‚

I love the name change! Sometimes we grow and in turn we grow out of what we have be known as. I have done so many name changes and new blogs/websites throughout the year. Things happen that way. Last year around this time, I chose In Her Lens to keep indefinitely because I feel like it’s a name that can grow with me…as I think your new name can grow with you, too! Good luck with your adventures this year!
