During our last day on the Amalfi Coast, we toured the area’s namesake- Amalfi, Italy. It was built around the 9th century, and it was really cool to see a lot of the historic buildings still standing! We spent the day leisurely walking around sightseeing and buying artwork and limoncello (Amalfi is known for its lemons and history of paper making, so they make great souvenirs or gifts), and it was the perfect place to have a last relaxing day on the coast 🙂

One Day in Amalfi, Italy

We caught the bus from Praiano to Amalfi, and I mentioned before in my Amalfi Coast transportation post that the ferries were shut down that day because the water was too rough, so the buses were much more crowded. If you want to avoid the big crowds, make sure you leave early in the day!

This street was filled with little shops, and we probably stopped in half of them!

Amalfi is known for its cathedral, which was also built in the 9th century, and it was more beautiful in person than the pictures show. We happened to be there on the day they were celebrating First Communion, so it was really neat to experience that in mass!

I’ve mentioned this in other Italy posts, but I love seeing the laundry hanging outside!

We stopped for lunch at La Piazzetta and it was pretty good and reasonably priced! Since we were in the place famous for lemons, I got a spaghetti dish made with a lemon sauce.

After loading up on food and souvenirs, we caught a bus back to Praiano. If you’re visiting the Amalfi Coast, I definitely recommend visiting Amalfi, Italy for a leisurely day of shopping and experiencing the local traditions! And make sure you get some limoncello! 🙂
