Snowy Winter in Philadelphia

I know I mentioned in last week’s post about changing my blog name that the focus of my blog will be on travel instead of Philadelphia, but I can’t resist posting these photos of snowy winter in Philadelphia! πŸ™‚ If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen my Insagram stories filled with photos of the snow. I absolutely love snow, and I’m lucky to have a dog that loves it as much as I do! (I even have a whole post of photos of Annika playing in the snow!) Annika has been so happy in the snow, so I took tons of photos of her when Philadelphia got hit by the “bomb cyclone.”

Snowy Winter in Philadelphia

Although I get really giddy when it snows, this has actually been the coldest winter since I’ve moved to Philadelphia. Before Christmas, it snowed three times in a week, and the temperature the past few days has been between 0 and 17 degrees, so I would like the weather to warm up a little! Last year I posted photos of Winter in Philadelphia featuring Rittenhouse Square (one of my favorite spots in the city!), and this year I braved the colder and explored places a little further away. We got quite a bit of snow the other day and the rivers had frozen over, so I wanted to walk down the the Schuylkill River and get photos. I think it was about 15 degrees and windy when we walked down there, but it was worth it. The ice on the river looked so cool, and I took tons of photos. Plus, Annika loved pulling Matt around in the snow walking in the snow!

We didn’t make it all the way down the the Philadelphia Museum of Art because it was freezing out, but it was cool to see it through the snow!

Someone actually walked on the frozen river! I wouldn’t advise trying this

There’s an “English village” a few blocks from the river and it looked so quaint in the snow

The next day, the snow was still around because it was so cold (but at least it was sunny!), so Annika got to run around on Matt’s patio. She loves the cold so much that she would just lay down on the snow, and I’m sure she would have loved sleeping out there if we let her!

She also loves sticking her nose in the snow and eating it!

During the weekend, Matt and I went ice skating at Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing! Before heading over to the ice rink, we walked along the boardwalk so I could get photos of the ice on the Delaware River. The river was moving more than the Schuylkill, so it was pretty cool to see big blocks of ice floating down the river.

After taking my fill of photos, we headed over to Blue Cross RiverRink to go ice skating. It has been quite a few years since I’ve been ice skating and I wasn’t a good ice skater to begin with, so I didn’t skate too well! But miraculously, I didn’t fall (even though I came quite close several times). If you’re like me and need a break from trying not to fall on the ice, the RiverRink has a lodge and a few spots outside to hang out and get some food and hot chocolate. It was about 15 degrees when we went skating, so the hot chocolate was definitely needed!

Even though I would prefer slightly warmer temperatures, winter in Philadelphia is beautiful, especially covered in snow! Anyone else love winter and snow as much as I do? πŸ™‚

Absolutely love your photos. And Annika is simply gorgeous ???????????? I, too, have filled my Instagram with photos of winter, but I needed to dig them up from the archive, as we had absolutely no snow in Bucharest this year ☺️ keep it going!

Firstly I have to say, your dog is adorable! And to say she looks at home in the snow is an understatement! But then her breed is used to the snow isn’t it so it’s in her doggie genes! Beautiful photos, here in the Pacific Northwest we’ve had very little, so I’m a wee bit jealous, and thank you for sharing them with us!
