The Flannel Diaries

With Thanksgiving coming up, I thought I would do a bit of a different post featuring a photography series that one of my college roommates and best friends, Morgan, has started on Instagram. I’ve mentioned before that I take photographs from more of a photojournalist perspectiveย (I’ve never been great at fine art andย my dream job is to be a National Geographic photojournalist), but I have some pretty amazing artistic friends!

Morgan started The Flannel Diaries to kick off the first day of fall, and in her words, “Today beckons the beginning of my favorite time of year, and though I am elated, I have been doing a lot of reflecting lately. As I watch summer fade out, talk with friends and family, and watch what is currently happening in our world, it seems that a lot of life transitions are currently coinciding with the transition of the seasons. Fall ushers in some noticeable changes, both in nature and in our lives. And I want to have some conversations about that.”

Why is she using flannel to talk about the transitions of seasons? Other than having an “extensive” collection of it (which I can attest to!), Morgan says, “I have impatiently anticipated the coming of autumn, and as I have heard the experiences of the people in my life, I have realized that some of my most precious conversations, epiphanies, and moments have happened in my flannels. And I’m ready to make some more, and hear about yours.”

Morgan is featured in most of the photos (wearing a different flannel in each because she seriously has an extensive collection), but she’s also featuring some guests, including yours truly! I’m rarely in front of the camera, but I make exceptions to help friends out ๐Ÿ™‚ Each photo has a different story about transition and change, and you should check them all out and follow Morgan on Instagram to keep up with her future flannel photography series, which will include stories about mental illness and women in male-dominated careers.

I was featured in the third post where I talked about being in a period of anti-transition after a hectic year

Morgan’s fourth post talked about her idea behind the photography series and why she chose flannel (which has a pretty interesting history)

The fifth post was in preparation for Thanksgiving and talked about gratitude

And the sixth post featured one of my other college roommates and best friends, Mariah, and talked about the transitions and changes from her first year of marriage

I hope some of these stories resonate with you, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming posts in The Flannel Diaries! ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
