Tivoli Gardens: The Magical Fairytale Garden of Copenhagen That You Can’t Miss!

Jul

The first time I stepped into Tivoli Gardens five years ago, I’m pretty sure my jaw dropped. I’m so used to American amusement parks looking the exact same with flashy, modern roller coasters, but Tivoli is NOT your typical amusement park. And if you’re going to Copenhagen, you have to see it for yourself! πŸ™‚

Tivoli Gardens: The Magical Fairytale Garden of Copenhagen That You Can't Miss!

Tivoli Gardens

My first thought when I entered Tivoli Gardens was thatΒ Dr. Seuss and Willy Wonka got together and created a garden in a dream world. There are peacocks wandering around and crazy flowers that look straight out of a Dr. Seuss book and the most beautiful architecture! Even the amusement park rides are gorgeous.

Tivoli Gardens is the second oldest amusement park in the world (the first is also in Denmark), and it opened in 1843. It’s right in the middle of the city near Copenhagen Central Station. When you go in, it’s like you’re in another world, and it’s crazy to think that it’s right in the middle of a busy city!

Visiting Tivoli Gardens isn’t the cheapest (understandably for how amazing it is), and you have to pay extra for rides. If you’re going to go a few times, the cheapest option is a year pass (350 krone), which I did when I lived in Copenhagen, and if you’re just going for a day (120 krone), you can enter more than once so you can come back. I’ve been during the day and at night, and I think visiting at night is even more magical! But you should go during the day to see all the beautiful flowers.

I have done one ride in Tivoli, but I love going just to walk around. You can even find some peaceful spots to relax and read (which is unheard of for loud amusement parks in the U.S.) if you go past the rides and into the garden area. They also have performers, and I’ve seen a Danish Elvis impersonator (surprisingly really good!) and a comedy show on the peacock stage!

The gardens are my favorite! There are so many different colorful flowers, including tons that I’ve never seen before, and there are real live peacocks wandering around. I’ve seen at least 3 different ones (including a white one!), and one actually let me get close to it! I’ve only been to one garden in the U.S. that had peacocks wandering around, but I’ve never heard of peacocks in an amusement park before! Tivoli Gardens really is one of a kind.

So there you have it, visiting Tivoli Gardens is a MUST if you go to Copenhagen! It’s a magical dreamland unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, and I go back every time I’m in Copenhagen. πŸ™‚

  2. As always, your photos are stunning. I always love visiting beautiful gardens. I will add this one to my list. My personal favorite is Giverny in France, home of Monet’s water lilies. Have you been there? You would love it.

Now, thanks to your photos, I got to see it in Spring/Summer time as well. It’s gorgeous during all the seasons, I guess.
