If you haven’t visited Aarhus, you may have still seen photos of the famous rainbow panorama! The ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum (or ARoS Art Museum) is one of the most interesting museums I’ve been to, and it’s well known for its rainbow you can walk through on the roof. If you’re planning a trip to Aarhus, you can’t miss the rainbow and modern art in the ARoS Art Museum! Plus, it’s the best place to get views of the city 🙂

Visiting the ARoS Art Museum

ARoS Art Museum was started in 1859, and the current building was built in 2004. It has 8-10 exhibits and 10 stories, making it one of the biggest museums in northern Europe! The name “ARoS” comes from one of the original names for Aarhus, which dates back to the Viking Age.

It’s a 10 minute walk from the train station, so it’s an easy place to get to for a day trip to Aarhus. It’s free for children, 18 € for adults, 14 € students and people under 31. It’s open every day of the week with Wednesday being open the latest until 10 p.m.

Along with the rainbow panoramic, the ARoS Art Museum is known for “Boy.” “Boy” is a statue that’s 4.5 meters high and weighs half a ton, and it’s pretty lifelike! It was made by Ron Mueck in 2000 and purchased by ARoS in 2001.

ARoS has a lot of other modern art exhibits, and I’m not the biggest fan of modern art so I didn’t spend too much time in the exhibits. They’re always rotating through new exhibits, so you should check out their calendar before going to see what they’ll have!

Since I’m not the biggest fan of modern art, I spent most of the time on the roof! “Your Rainbow Panorama” was made in 2011 by Olafur Eliasson, and it’s 150 meters long and three meters wide and extends across the whole roof. It was really cool to walk through and see the city in different colors!

Below the rainbow panorama is a large deck, and you can see different views of the city. And you can lounge in the chairs if it’s a sunny day 🙂 It’s a great spot to go to in the summer!

I didn’t get to go, but there is a restaurant on the roof if you have time for a bite!
