7 Farms to Visit in and Around Philadelphia

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll probably see that I visit farms and farmer’s markets as frequently as I can in the spring and summer. I love local farms and produce so much that I even run an SEO business helping farmers rank higher on Google. If you’re like me and want to escape the city life for a bit, there are some great farms in and around Philadelphia that you can visit! And if you can’t make it to a farm, don’t sleep on the farmer’s markets (the one in Rittenhouse Square is my favorite) because they’re pretty awesome.

Everyone I know in Philly goes to Linvilla Orchards for apple picking in the fall (and despite living here for 10 years, I still haven’t gone!), but there are lots more farms in the city and right outside to explore! These are my favorite 7 farms to visit in Philadelphia, and there are even more I’m going to add to my list.

Maple Acres Farm

Maple Acres is my go-to farm for pretty much everything! They’re in Plymouth Meeting right off the highway. They’re open every day with their farm stand, and in the summer, you can go blueberry and flower picking. You can even pick 100 zinnias for just a few dollars! You can get pumpkins in the fall and go on hay rides.

They also have lots of space to hang out and explore, and it’s a great place to bring kids. I love meeting up with friends so our kids can visit all the animals and pretend to drive the tractor. I go there so frequently in the summer that I was even there the in the morning on the day I gave birth to my second child!

Germantown Kitchen Garden

Germantown Kitchen Garden is one of my newer farm discoveries! It isn’t a farm that you can tour like some of the others, but I wanted to include it because it’s actually within Philly in Germantown.

This farm is open May-October. They have a great farm stand on Saturdays selling their produce and food from other local small businesses (including flowers from one of my favorites Terra Luna Herbals), and they have a nursery open on the weekends. They also have great events during the growing season, a CSA, and a huge winter market in December.

Redeemer Valley Farm

Redeemer Valley Farm is right outside Northeast Philly in Huntingdon Valley with a farm and a farmer’s market open on Saturdays. There are a few different stands at the farmer’s market, and they have lots of animals that you can see so it’s a fun place to bring kids! And if you want to work in the garden and get your hands dirty, you can also volunteer there and help grow produce for the farmer’s market.

Styer’s Peonies

Styer’s Peonies is in Chadds Ford, and as you might have guessed, they’re a peony farm! So they’re not open year round, just in late May and early June during peony season. But if you’re a fan of peonies or just want walk around a beautiful flower farm, it’s definitely worth a visit.

They’re only open for their annual peony festival for a few weeks each year, and you pay a general admission to get in. You can’t pick flowers in the field, but you can walk around and take pictures and purchase a bouquet of peonies on your way out. If you want to get some spring family photos, this is a great place for it! I took some photos of my daughter last year, and they’re some of my favorite photos of her.

Robson’s Farm

Robson’s Farm is actually across the bridge in Wrightstown, NJ. I first went there for peach picking since that was one of my favorite summer activities when I lived in North Carolina, but they have a variety of produce, including pawpaws!

They have peach, apple, and flower picking in the summer and fall, and in September, you can do a pawpaw walk to pick them. They also have lots of other produce and products at their farm stand.

Shady Brook Farm

Shady Brook Farm is in Yardley, and they have lots of different activities during the year! I tried to go flower picking in the summer, but the fields are only open on certain days so I haven’t gotten to do much there yet (but I did do lots of shopping in their garden center and farm stand!).

They have everything from flower picking in the summer, pumpkin picking in the fall, and light shows at Christmas. It is more of an attraction than a typical farm that you might be picturing, so it is a fun place to visit but be prepared for more crowds.

The Farm at Oxford

The Farm at Oxford is a great farm to visit if you love dahlias, and they’re located in Chester County. They are only open for events during the growing season, and you can pick dahlias and peonies and learn how to make your own flower arrangements! And if you want to grow your own flowers, they also have online sales throughout the year where you can buy things like peony plants to add to your garden.

Other Farms in Philadelphia

I still have some more farms I need to visit if you have any recommendations! There are also farms that you can’t visit but you can find at farmer’s markets or purchase products online, like Terra Luna Herbals, Love ‘n Fresh Flowers, Jewells in Bloom, Spring Break Flower Farm,

Farms around Philadelphia that I want to visit are Fox Chase Farm (only open for specific events), Mill Creek Urban Farm, The Farm at Awbury Arboretum, Farmer Jawn (I’ve been to their Elkins Park location, but they have other locations, too), Pennypack Farm, and, of course, Linvilla Orchards. What other farms should I add to my list? 🙂
